Open doorways make it easy for flying insects, dust and outside air to enter food-handling, storage and commercial work areas. PVC strip doors provide a physical barrier across the opening while allowing staff and equipment to move through without operating a conventional door.
How PVC strip doors help control insects
Overlapping PVC strips reduce the open space available for insects to pass through. The strips fall back into position after traffic has moved through, so the doorway remains covered for most of the working day.
Yellow PVC strips can provide additional insect-control benefits in suitable applications. The coloured material filters the light visible through the doorway, making internal light less attractive to some flying insects. The correct result depends on the doorway, lighting, strip overlap and surrounding environment, so the installation should form part of the site’s broader hygiene and pest-management controls.
Suitable commercial applications
- Food preparation and processing areas
- Bakeries, butcher shops and seafood facilities
- Supermarkets and food distribution centres
- Warehouses and commercial storage areas
- Doorways between clean work zones and external areas
Additional operational benefits
PVC strips can also reduce unwanted air exchange, dust movement and drafts. Semi-transparent coloured strips retain useful visibility through the opening, while clear strips provide the highest visibility for two-way pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
Strip width, thickness and overlap must suit the opening height and traffic. A pedestrian doorway, trolley route and forklift opening each need a different balance between access and sealing performance. Strips should be cleaned regularly and damaged lengths replaced so the barrier remains effective.
Choosing clear or coloured strips
Clear PVC is suitable where visibility is the main priority. Yellow PVC is often selected where flying-insect control is important. Other colours can identify zones, improve privacy or create a visible entrance while retaining some transparency for safety.
Austcold manufactures coloured strip doors to the required opening size and can recommend the material and mounting arrangement for the application.
